Shubman Gill will bat at number 4 in the upcoming Test series against England starting June 20. During a pre-game press conference on Wednesday, Rishabh Pant, the vice-captain, hinted at the batting order. Gill has also been made the Test captain, the big job of leading the Indian batting lineup. He’s taking over the role previously held by Virat Kohli and there are a few interesting similarities between them.
Both are Punjabi.
Kohli born in Delhi and living in London and Mumbai is from a Punjabi family. He grew up in West Delhi where many Punjabi families reside. Gill is from Fazilka, Punjab where he spent most of his cricket training and played in domestic leagues.

Both Played at Number 4 after legends Retired.
Kohli batted at number 5 in Tests before 2013 when he was behind Sachin Tendulkar in the lineup. Once Tendulkar retired Kohli took over the number 4 spot and made it his own. Similarly Gill used to open the innings or bat at number 3 but with Kohli’s retirement he gets to bat at number 4, a position once held by other cricket greats.
