On the 27th of May, Tuesday, the RCB team took down LSG to cement its place as second on the points table, just behind Punjab Kings. This victory gave the Challengers a renewed hope of winning their very first IPL trophy, being able to set their sights on qualifying on the 29th of May at Mullanpur Stadium. The title is much desired by Pune fans after 18 years, something also being chased by Punjab Kings.
Here we shall see the IPL trophies that were maintained by teams finishing second. Oddly enough, more teams coming in second have actually grabbed the title than those first-finishers. The beginning of the trend was 2011, with CSK clinching the title coming from second place-well, that was their second back-to-back title in the league. From 2011 onward and through 2015, several teams finished second and went on to massively grab the title. OneZoff since 2011, teams that finished second have grabbed a total of seven titles; the most recent being won by CSK in 2023.
