Pat Cummins is a guy who wins a lot. He’s got the World Test Championship, the ODI World Cup – basically, he’s won it all. He almost got the Indian Premier League trophy, too. His Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team just couldn’t beat the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, losing twice and missing out on the championship.
Looks like the IPL 2025 auction was all about fixing what went wrong last time. SRH needed more batting power and better bowlers to back up Cummins. So, they got Abhinav Manohar, who can really hit the ball, plus some experienced bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Harshal Patel, and Adam Zampa. That should even things out.
Ishan Kishan is in, replacing Aiden Markram in the middle order. He’s played a lot of IPL games and has something to prove. Plus, SRH already has a killer batting lineup that can smash the ball from the very first bowl. This year, people should watch out for SRH.
But can they actually win? All the other teams have improved since IPL 2024, and SRH doesn’t have a lot of great players on the bench. If Manohar doesn’t do well, there aren’t many replacements. And even though Zampa and Chahar are good spinners, they haven’t been amazing lately, so Cummins might struggle on slow pitches.
If SRH wants to win, they need to start strong and win games early. That way, they don’t have to worry about their run rate at the end. If they can get on a roll, their improved team should have a real shot at the title.
How SRH Did in IPL 2024
Once SRH started scoring 200+ at their home stadium, it was like everyone else realized how much the Impact Player rule changed the game. SRH was ahead of the curve, and only KKR seemed to have an answer for their aggressive style (before those two playoff games). They finished second in the group stage with eight wins.
Travis Head scored the most runs for them (567), and T Natarajan took the most wickets (19). Nitish Kumar Reddy was named the Emerging Player of the Year for his all-around play.
