March 1, 2003: Sachin Tendulkar scored a match-winning goal against Pakistan in the World Cup on this day. Trying a difficult objective of 274, Tendulkar scored a spectacular innings of 98 from 75 balls off.
Against a strong Pakistan bowling lineup including Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, and Waqar Younis, Tendulkar hit a magnificent 12 boundaries and one maximum. Akhtar yielded 72 runs over his ten overs; Waqar yielded 71 runs. This also holds as Akhtar´s costliest ten-over spell in the ODIs.

Ultimately, India won with 26 balls left. On the back of the Master Blaster’s excellent fifty, India went on to win by six wickets.

Eventually Sachin Tendulkar missed his century by only two runs. Shoaib Akhtar let him go in the 28th over of the innings. Unbeaten on 44, Rahul Dravid shepherded India to a unique World Cup victory against Pakistan.
