Ravichandran Ashwin, the leading spinner for India, asserted that English batting superstar Harry Brook is reeling from pressure after his team looses confidence in the game of one-day internationals.
Jos Buttler and his men entered the competition as group B participants but were beaten by Australia and squandered a surprise defeat to Afghanistan; here they were finished for good.
Ashwin lambasted the mentality of England in the ongoing ICC tournament on his YouTube channel.

“I saw Jos Buttler’s post-match interview (after the Afghanistan game). He was very candid in saying, ‘I do not know what my leadership aspirations are in the future.’ They had a dreadful 50-over World Cup in 2023,” said Ashwin during an interview on his YouTube channel.
“There was a statement from Ben Duckett after losing the first ODI in India. He said, ‘We don’t care if we lose against India 3-0. Because we want to beat India in the final of the Champions Trophy,'” said Ashwin.
“But what is lacking here is a constant template in your batting. You were marketing and branding Harry Brook as the next sensation of the younger generation. But Harry Brook’s game is going with a slump, and as such, he is under tremendous pressure now to win games single-handedly,” Ashwin continued.
Buttler told during a press conference on Friday that he will step down from being England white-ball captain after their last Champions Trophy group game against South Africa on Saturday, March 1.
England were eliminated from the eight-team Champions Trophy after their defeat to Afghanistan on Wednesday. They will meet South Africa in their last Group B game in Karachi. After taking over as white-ball captain in June 2022 after the retirement of Eoin Morgan, Buttler had last year led England to success in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
However, the England captain’s stint also saw two embarrassing title defences and the 2023 World Cup in India, where, instead of making the semifinals after losing to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, England fell flat on its face.
In the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, England lost to India, who ultimately went on to win the event, in the Caribbean.
Buttler has captained England in 44 ODIs, winning 18, losing 25, and one ending without a result. Yet, he has said that retirement is far from his mind as he wants to “really enjoy” his cricket once again.
