While six ODIs may have seen India unbeaten in the last six, here is one area where they have had little luck of late. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the Indian team has lost every coin toss in an ODI. After the Champions Trophy Group A match against New Zealand, the unlucky coin tosses were at 13 on Sunday in Dubai.
Out of these 13 tosses, Rohit Sharma-while being the regular captain-has lost 10, and KL Rahul couldn’t do any better in the other three times (ODI series in South Africa).
As New Zealand ODI skipper Mitchell Santner called the toss in his favor against India, commentator Dinesh Karthik made a mockery of Rohit’s lost coin toss for the nth time.
I thought Rohit was talking to his teammates but it was Dinesh Karthik to whom Rohit Sharma having fun after losing the toss. Rohit to DK like : "tu panoti nikal" 🤣😂👌 #INDvsNZ

While Santner started speaking with commentator Ian Bishop, Rohit walked across and humorously signaled to Karthik to stop his relentless teasing of his former captain.
But Rohit does not mind losing in this fashion for as long as the result is in his team’s favor. India is the only team across the two groups to have won all their matches before the semifinal-thus far beating Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
The Rohit-led side is next scheduled to take on Australia in a semifinal. The last time these two sides clashed in an ODI was during the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup when Australia stunned expected winners India to take a record-extending sixth title.
New Zealand will take on South Africa in the second semi final in Lahore on Wednesday.
The team captained by Rohit will now clash against Australia in the semis for the tournament. The last time the two sides contested an ODI was the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where Australia shocked favorites India to claim the record-extending sixth title.
New Zealand will play South Africa in the other semifinal on Wednesday in Lahore.
Iyer and Chakaravarthy contributed to India’s 44-run triumph over New Zealand on Sunday.
Iyer made a fine 79 runs off 89 balls with a tricky Dubai pitch underneath to give India some stability with their score of 249 for 9 in 50 overs. Chakaravarthy was then stupendous with a five-wicket haul that destroyed New Zealand’s innings for 205 runs in 45.3 overs.
