On Wednesday, former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie took to Instagram to publish a story in which he lashed out against the acting Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed for his actions that led to Gillespie’s removal from the position of head coach of the Pakistan men’s Test team a year ago.
Gillespie was appointed as head coach for red-ball cricket by the Pakistan men’s cricket team in April 2024; however, within eight months, he parted ways with the PCB.
After almost more than three months since his departure, Gillespie opened up and hit back at Javed. “Aaqib was always someone who was undermining me and Gary Kirsten while campaigning behind the scenes to become the coach in all formats of Pakistan men’s cricket. A clown,” Gillespie had said.
Gillespie’s reply came after Javed criticized PCB’s changes in coaching staff and selectors over the past few years, attributing poor team performance to those changes in the Champions Trophy 2025.
“In the last 2.5 years, we have changed 16 coaches and 26 selectors. You can do this to any team around the world, and their performance might be like this,” Aaqib said.
Apart from Gillespie, Pakistan also appointed Gary Kirsten as head coach of white-ball teams in April 2024, but the former India head coach quit his post in October 2024. Under his tenure, Pakistan participated in the T20 World Cup 2024, suffering consecutive defeats to the USA and India in their initial two matches.
Pakistan played two matches in the Champions Trophy in 2025 but suffered crushing defeats in each of them: first, in the National Stadium in Karachi on February 19, Rizwan’s side lost to New Zealand by 60 runs; later, India crushed the side by six wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
In the match against Pakistan, Kohli scored an unbeaten century-run109 from 111 balls-to help the Men in Blue chase down a target of 242 runs in 42.3 overs for four wickets.
