In an extraordinary dismissal incident, in Rawalpindi between the State Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Television, Pakistan cricketer Saud Shakeel was timed out during the ongoing President’s Trophy final match. Shakeel is the first Pakistani cricketer to be timed out and the seventh in the first-class history.
Day 2 saw SBP lose two wickets in quick succession, which caught Shakeel off guard.
When Shakeel eventually got to the center to take guard, he was well into overtime of the three minutes allowed for a new batter to be ready to take guard and face the first delivery after a wicket had fallen.
PTV captain Amad Butt appealed for timed out, and the umpires agreed.
Muhammad Shahzad, the fast bowler on the day, was near to bagging a hat-trick when, after despatching SBP batters Umar Amin and Fawad Alam with back-to-back deliveries, he then resorted to firing Shakeel on the third with the excitement of hugogt time. That dimmed down the excitement of a hat-trick from a time-wasting Shakeel.
From 128/1, the State Bank of Pakistan was reduced to 128/5 in the span of three deliveries.
Interestingly, due to Ramadan, the first-class match isn’t played during the day. The contest begins at 7:30 PM IST and goes on till 2:30 AM IST, including tea and dinner breaks.
Saud Shakeel was part of a shambolic campaign for Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, as the hosts exited the tournament in the group stages without any win.
Pakistan opened to set the New Zealanders back by 60 runs in Karachi where Shakeel made his debut as an opener with 6 runs in 19 balls.
The Mohammad Rizwan-led team then flew to Dubai for their match against India, where Shakeel was sent up to number 3 and made a half-century as Pakistan were bowled out for 241: India chased down the target in 42.3 overs with a six-wicket victory.
Their third and final group match against Bangladesh was abandoned without toss.
