In a breakthrough development, KL Rahul has reportedly declined to lead Delhi Capitals in the next IPL 2025 season. He was shortlisted to take on captaincy, but now that plan has been shelved.
As stated in IANS reports, the franchise contacted KL Rahul for the position, but the India’s star was content with playing as a pure batter and therefore declined the offer from the owners.
Now this post actually belongs to star allrounder Axar Patel after KL rejects the captaincy idea. The tussle for the new DC captain, post-Rishabh Pant, was between Rahul and Axar, but now that keeper-batter Axar will lead the team in IPL 2025, the offer is almost mortality finalized for that position.
One of the heroes in the Champions Trophy victory, Axar does not have IPL captaincy experience, but his association with the franchise has led them to approach him to become the new captain.
The Capitals are in for a KL Rahul blow just before the season. The batter will miss a couple of games early on mainly as there is no injury reason, not like that really, but KL is most probably going to miss a few games because the arrival of his child is imminent.
KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty are expecting the birth of their first child in April, and as a result, the latest DC signing may miss a couple of games.
