Inzamam-ul-Haq, the ex-Pakistan cricket star, has responded to some comments made by Mohammad Hafeez. Basically, Hafeez had kind of downplayed the impact that players from the ’90s had on Pakistan cricket, suggesting they didn’t really leave much of a mark since they didn’t bag a World Cup win.
It all started during the Champions Trophy when Hafeez took a shot at those ’90s cricketers, pointing out their lack of a World Cup title.
During a presser in Lahore, someone asked Inzamam what he thought about Hafeez’s remarks, and Inzamam didn’t hold back.
Inzamam made it clear that Pakistan cricket owes a whole lot to the players from the ’90s. He said that without their contribution, Pakistan cricket wouldn’t be where it is today. He even pointed out that a lot of the players who achieved success after the ’90s actually came from that era.
He emphasized that the ’90s were a goldmine for Pakistan cricket and that nobody should be making statements that undermine what those players achieved. He wasn’t sure exactly what Hafeez had said, but he thought everyone knew the impact the ’90s players had.
Inzamam seemed worried about the way Pakistan cricket has been slipping lately. He thinks it’s due to errors made by leadership running the show. He told reporters that the team’s performance has really gone downhill in the last couple of years.
He thinks the board needs to wise up, learn from their past errors, and avoid repeating them. If things don’t turn around, he fears Pakistan will keep falling behind.
Pakistan’s cricket scene has been on a rough patch in recent years. After getting second place in the 2022 T20 World Cup, their showing in ICC tournaments has been pretty bad.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Pakistan just missed making it to the top four. They only won four out of their nine matches in the first round. Then, at the T20 World Cup last year, which was just after the ODI disappointment, Pakistan lost to the USA and India in the group stage and didn’t even get to the Super 8s. A total disaster!
