Looks like the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) game on April 6 at Eden Gardens might get moved. PTI says the Kolkata police haven’t given the okay because of Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal.
Apparently, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said there will be over 20,000 processions for the festival, so security is tight. Snehasish Ganguly, who heads the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), talked to the city police twice on Tuesday.
Snehasish told PTI, They said they can’t provide enough security. Without police, we can’t handle a crowd of 65,000. He said the authorities haven’t given the go-ahead for the match. We told the BCCI, and we still have time to decide. Last year, an IPL game on Ram Navami also got moved.
Both KKR and LSG have a ton of fans in Kolkata, making things even tougher for the cops. Last season, the IPL game between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was also moved for the same reason.
The 2025 IPL season kicks off at Eden Gardens on March 22, with champs KKR playing Rajat Patidar’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru. There’s some extra stuff going on, like Patidar playing against his old coach Chandrakant Pandit, who coaches KKR.
It’s also Ajinkya Rahane’s first game as KKR captain. He’s got a lot on his plate since the team is the champ and won both games against RCB last time.
Before the game, there’s supposed to be a big 35-minute opening show with singers Karan Aujla, Shreya Ghoshal, and actress Disha Patani. ICC chairman Jay Shah and other big names from the BCCI might be there too.
Snehasish said, It’s a huge game, and everyone wants tickets. Eden Gardens is having an opening ceremony for the first time in a while. He didn’t want to say anything else about the ceremony, though.
