Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy, just starting his recovery. It seems like there’s not a huge chance he’ll be ready for the start of the Indian Premier League’s 18th edition.
Missing Bumrah at the beginning of IPL 2025 is tough. Jayawardene hopes he can rejoin the team soon and said that Bumrah seems positive at the NCA.
Bumrah has been off the field for a couple of months because of a back injury he got during the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Jasprit is at the NCA right now. He’s just beginning to get better. We need to see what they say about his progress. Right now, things look good, but it changes all the time, Jayawardene told the press.
He’s doing well mentally. It’s hard not having him since he’s one of the top bowlers worldwide and has been great for us over the years, Jayawardene added.
Reports say Bumrah hasn’t fully recovered from the back injury that’s kept him out for the past two months.
He got injured on the second day of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney on January 4.
Bumrah missed the Champions Trophy (which India won on March 9). This is his first back issue since his surgery in March 2023.
When announcing the Champions Trophy team two months ago, Ajit Agarkar, India’s chief selector, said the BCCI medical team told Bumrah to rest for at least five weeks.
Since the Champions Trophy started on February 19, Bumrah was initially included in India’s team. He went to Bengaluru for tests last month but still felt pain and wasn’t named in the final team.
Mumbai starts their season in Chennai against the Super Kings on Sunday, March 23, and then plays the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 29.
