Good news for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their bowler Avesh Khan is back in action for IPL 2025. He got the green light from the BCCI after dealing with a knee issue, and he’s ready to rejoin the LSG team soon. It was reported that he had been sidelined since late January, with his last match for India in a T20I against South Africa last November. He also couldn’t play in Madhya Pradesh’s final game in the Ranji Trophy because of his knee pain, which came from his domestic matches.
Avesh went through rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and recently passed one of his final fitness tests. While it’s unclear when he’ll officially join the LSG camp, he’s likely to be ready for their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27. After losing their first match of the season to Delhi Capitals (DC), LSG is eager to bounce back.
LSG has faced a bunch of injury troubles with their main Indian bowlers. Mayank Yadav, who is already healing from a back injury, just picked up a toe injury as well. Akash Deep is still working on getting back to 100% after his back injury during India’s Test tour of Australia. Unfortunately, left-arm bowler Mohsin Khan won’t play this season due to an ACL tear he suffered last December. Shardul Thakur is taking his place in the squad.
After the defeat to Delhi Capitals, LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener mentioned that their bowling options are limited right now. He said, “We don’t have a lot of backup in the bowling department, so we’ll need to figure things out until we get players back. But that’s how it is. We have to step up with the bat in Hyderabad. We’re looking forward to that, and it’s a chance for some younger players to shine. I was really glad for Shardul Thakur – he took two wickets in his first over.”
