Fast bowler Olly Stone from England is going to miss most of a five-match Test series against India. He just had knee surgery, and that’s going to keep him off the field for about 14 weeks. Stone last played in a Test match against Sri Lanka back in September. After that, he was really looking forward to making a comeback with Nottinghamshire this year. Unfortunately, he has had a bunch of fitness problems over time, and this is just another setback for him. With the county season kicking off this Friday, he now has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

He’s not alone in this; other England quicks like Mark Wood and Brydon Carse will also be out as the domestic season opens. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) put out a statement saying, England and Nottinghamshire fast bowler Olly Stone has been ruled out of all cricket for 14 weeks following scans and subsequent surgery this week, which confirmed a right knee injury.
Stone had been feeling a lot more pain during Nottinghamshire’s pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi last month. After those initial scans, it became clear that he needed surgery. Now, he’s gearing up for rehab, working closely with the medical teams at the ECB and Nottinghamshire to get back into shape.
In the meantime, England is set to play Zimbabwe in a one-off Test starting on May 22 as a warm-up before they take on India. The five-Test series with India kicks off on June 20. If all goes well, there’s a chance Stone might return in time for the last two Tests. But if he doesn’t make it back for that, he’s most likely eyeing a return with the London Spirit in The Hundred, which starts on August 5. So, he has some hopes to look forward to, just has to take it one step at a time.
