Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former cricketer who now works as a commentator, has been singing the praises of Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya. He really believes that Priyansh has what it takes to play for India on the international stage. Sidhu’s confidence comes after Priyansh delivered an incredible performance against the Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
When Punjab found themselves in dire straits at 83 for 5, things looked pretty grim. But there was Priyansh, stepping up at just the right moment. He really changed the game with his batting. Facing a tough Chennai bowling attack that included stars like Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, Priyansh went all out. Despite a bit of luck—Chennai dropped his catch twice—he managed to slam a remarkable 39-ball century, marking his first in this lucrative league.
His batting style was a mix of finesse and power, and he was relentlessly aggressive. With help from teammates Shashank Singh, who scored 52 not out, and Marco Jansen with 34 not out, they pushed Punjab to a competitive total of 219 runs for 6 wickets. Sidhu, who’s seen many players come and go in his cricketing journey, calls Priyansh a “miracle” player, placing him right after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in terms of talent.
In an Instagram video, Sidhu expressed his excitement, saying, “Priyansh Arya will represent India for a long time. After Sachin Tendulkar, he’s the second player who is a miracle because he scored a century in such a tough spot. Just look at the bowlers he faced; he had a striking rate of 250!” He went on to say that when other key players like Shreyas, Nehal, and Prabhsimran got out, Priyansh really stood up and showcased his skills. “His ability to hit sixes all around the ground caught everyone’s attention. He faced some serious bowlers like Pathirana and Jadeja and still managed to pull off a win for Punjab,” Sidhu added.
After Priyansh’s electrifying innings of 103 off just 42 balls, which included nine sixes, the pressure was on Punjab’s bowlers to defend the total and ensure Chennai couldn’t chase it down. Even though Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra started strong for Chennai, they ultimately fell short by 18 runs, marking their fourth consecutive loss this season.
