Things haven’t been going smoothly for the Chennai Super Kings lately. On top of their rough start to the IPL season, they got hit with the bad news that their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is sidelined for the rest of IPL 2025 due to an elbow injury. It’s a tough break for the team, but maybe they just needed a little shake-up. In a twist that fans might appreciate, the iconic MS Dhoni is stepping back into the captaincy role once again at the Anbuden.
Gaikwad suffered an injury when Jofra Archer hit him with a short ball during a match against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati, resulting in an elbow fracture. Once the news broke, it was confirmed that he wouldn’t be playing for the rest of the season and that Dhoni would take over the captain duties.
In a video shared by CSK on social media, Gaikwad expressed his feelings about the situation. I’m pretty upset about missing the rest of the IPL because of this elbow injury. I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten so far, he said. He seemed hopeful too, perhaps with a hint of humor, as he mentioned, We know things have been tough for us lately. But now with a young wicketkeeper leading the team, maybe we’ll turn things around.

Even though he won’t be on the field, Gaikwad isn’t stepping away completely. He plans to be with the CSK squad throughout the season, cheering them on from the sidelines. I’ll be with the team to support them. I really wish I could help steer us out of this current situation myself. But some things are out of our hands, he noted, emphasizing his commitment to the team’s efforts.
Now, with Dhoni taking the helm again, fans are looking for that old magic from the legendary 43-year-old, who is known as one of the best captains in IPL history, having led the team to five championship titles in the past. Currently, CSK has managed just one win out of five matches, putting them in ninth place. With Dhoni back in charge, the team is hoping for a turnaround in their season performance.
