In the IPL 2025 game tonight between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, players and officials will sport black armbands as a tribute to the victims of the tragic Pahalgam attack. The BCCI has also decided to hold a minute of silence to honor those who lost their lives.
As reported by Times Now, IPL organizers have opted to skip the usual fireworks and cheerleaders for this match, which is set to take place at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. This decision comes in the wake of a horrifying event where gunmen attacked civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, killing at least 26 tourists.
In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut his trip to Saudi Arabia short to meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other key officials. PM Modi has made a strong statement, saying that those behind this terrible act will face justice. The Resistance Front (TRF), connected to the group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has taken responsibility for the attack.
After returning, Modi got briefed on the situation. This incident has stirred outrage throughout the country, and there have been strong condemnations from leaders around the globe. To support the victims’ families, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for each family who lost a member, Rs. 2 lakh for those seriously hurt, and Rs. 1 lakh for individuals with minor injuries.
Even Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has changed her travel plans, cutting short her visit to the US due to the attack. The Kashmir Valley has seen a shutdown, with people of all ages and backgrounds coming together for the first time in 35 years to protest against the violence in Pahalgam.
On the cricket side of things, MI, led by Hardik Pandya, had previously outplayed SRH in their first game of the season at Wankhede Stadium. After a rough start, MI has managed to recover with four wins and four losses from their eight matches. Meanwhile, SRH is finding it tough, having clinched just two victories out of seven games.
