The ICC has introduced major changes into the laws of cricket internationally from next month. To name one of the biggest changes, the ODIs will go back to using only one new ball. At present, under two-ball method, a new ball is taken from each end of the pitch, but this set-up will change from July onwards, as Cricbuzz reported.
For the first 34 overs, they will remain with the two-ball system, but from the 35th over, the fielding side will choose one ball to be used for the rest of the innings. If the match is truncated to 25 overs or below, then only one new ball will be used throughout.
There is also some change to the concussion substitutions rule. Teams must now list five possible substitutes before every single match, naming one wicketkeeper, one batsman, one fast bowler, one spinner, and one all-rounder. Should one of these nominated players receive a concussion, the match referee may allow a replacement from outside the list, subject, of course, to the normal like-for-like stipulation.

Updates are coming for rules about boundary catches and for the DRS, but we will learn more on those later. These new rules are not going to be used for the WTC final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s on June 11. But the new rules will come into effect next WTC cycle with the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match in Galle on June 17. The changes for white-ball cricket will come into operation from Sri Lanka’s ODI against Bangladesh on July 2 and T20I on July 10.
