When India take on England at Leeds, all eyes will be on the battle between England’s top batsman Joe Root and India’s pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Both are in good form and it should be a cracker. From Friday, the new-look Indian team led by Shubman Gill will want to get Root out as soon as possible in every Test.
They have options like Arshdeep Singh’s left-arm pace, Shardul Thakur’s ability to break partnerships, Mohammed Siraj’s energy or Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav’s skill. But really, Bumrah might be the best bet to get Root out.

Bumrah has been the standout performer, especially in the Australia tour where he took 32 wickets and disrupted runs. He’ll be looking to repeat that in England, having got Root out nine times in 24 innings. So far Root has scored 286 runs at 31.77 against Bumrah, 36 fours in 559 balls faced and 411 dot balls mixed in.

Both have their targets. Bumrah is looking to become the first Indian to get 150 Test wickets in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia and needs 5 more. Root is looking to catch up with Sachin Tendulkar’s Test record of 15,921 runs and is currently at 13,006 runs.
So, let’s see who wins this battle. We’ll find out soon at Leeds!
