On July 6th, Shubman Gill’s Team India, full of young players who were doubted, achieved a historic win on the England tour. It’s a record because they beat Ben Stokes’ team in Birmingham. They won by the biggest margin in away Tests and broke the Edgbaston jinx to level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 1-1.
The second Test was a game to remember. Shubman Gill scored a lot of runs, over 400 in both innings. Akash Deep is the second Indian bowler after Chetan Sharma to take 10 wickets on English soil. But teamwork was bigger than individual stats.
After winning, Gill spoke to his teammates. He praised each player’s work over the five days of the second Test. He called Mohammed Siraj’s one-handed catch to get Josh Tongue out on the final day the ‘best moment of the game’.
“I will remember this forever. When I retire, this will be a happy memory, Gill said in a video from BCCI.
“But Siraj’s catch at the end was the best part for me, he added. The others applauded Siraj.

It happened in the second session on the final day of the Edgbaston Test. India needed two wickets to win. In the 64th over of England’s chase, Tongue hit Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery to short mid-wicket. Siraj moved right and caught the ball in his palm, the best catch of the Test.

Later, Gill caught England’s last batter, Brydon Carse, to seal India’s 336-run win, their first at the ground in nine attempts.
“I was supposed to take the last catch and I’m happy we finished this match well. We have three more big matches coming up and I think it’s good that we have the momentum now, he said.
