Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav said if he could pick anyone to be his tennis doubles partner, it would be the legendary MS Dhoni. He praised the Chennai Super Kings player for his speed, stamina and mental strength.
Suryakumar was speaking at Wimbledon 2025. He and his wife, Devisha Shetty, were attending the event for the first time. The two semi-finals are happening today, with Carlos Alcaraz of Spain playing Taylor Fritz of America and Novak Djokovic of Serbia facing Jannik Sinner of Italy.
I watch tennis a lot on TV, Suryakumar told JioHotstar. I’ve always heard about the atmosphere at Centre Court, especially when you walk in. I wanted to see what it was like in person.
Who would he choose as his doubles partner? “Definitely, MS Dhoni. He’s fast, has great stamina, is mentally tough and I’ve seen him playing tennis a lot recently when he’s not playing cricket. So, it would be MS Dhoni for sure.
Wimbledon posted a photo of Suryakumar and Devisha. He was wearing a slim-fit light beige suit with a dark purple dotted tie.
“This is my first time here and I wanted to get everything right. My wife really takes care of me. She helped me decide what to wear to this event for the last few days. Lots of people are here and I’m here to experience it with them, Suryakumar said.
Who are his favorite players? “For Wimbledon, it’s Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. I remember how the crowd would go crazy when they played. But my all-time favorite is Novak Djokovic. And right now, I’d say Carlos Alcaraz has been amazing on the court, Suryakumar said.

The 34-year-old talked about how tennis and cricket are similar. “I think cricket and tennis have a lot in common. Mental strength is really important in both sports. There’s a lot of stamina needed. In cricket we run the same 20-25 meters over and over and it’s the same in tennis. So, I’d say mental toughness and stamina are the two main things they share,” Suryakumar said.He had surgery in Munich, Germany recently for a sports hernia. Will be back in October when India tours Australia.
