Michael Vaughan, the former England cricketer, thinks Shubman Gill has problems. India has been losing wickets in clusters since the first Test. He joked they must like the food in England.
These wickets before lunch have been a pattern for India this series. It started with KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan getting out on day one of the Headingley Test. Vaughan attributes these dismissals to lack of concentration and being too cautious.
Vaughan said on Cricbuzz that Gill must be worried after the collapse in Leeds, the one on Day 4 and the three wickets in the morning. He joked India must like the food and think about the lunches when they get out. He said it’s about concentration. The more you think about changing your batting as a session ends, the more likely you are to get out.
He then pointed out how these collapses have hurt India in the series, referring to the wickets on day four of the Lord’s Test. Karun Nair, Gill and Akash Deep all got out before the close of play. Vaughan said these wickets cost India the Test as they should have chased 193. He admitted the pitch had some challenges. But on paper, with India’s batting line up, they should have got that target.
