Dilip Vengsarkar, the former Indian batsman, told Yashasvi Jaiswal to tone down his aggression after he failed twice in the third Test against England at Lord’s. Jaiswal scored 13 and 0 in the two innings and couldn’t give India the start they needed.
His seven-ball duck in the second innings became a talking point. He tried to attack Jofra Archer early on but mistimed a pull shot. This exposed the Indian batting to the new ball late on Day 4. Vengsarkar said Jaiswal should control his aggressive style, play each ball as it comes and be more consistent.
Jaiswal is a good player with a lot of potential but he sometimes needs to control his aggression. In Test cricket, you have to play each ball on its own merit. One small mistake and you are out. He hasn’t scored many runs since his century and consistency is key at the highest level. I expect a lot from him in Test cricket, Vengsarkar told RevSportz.
Jaiswal started the series well with a century (101) in the first Test in Leeds, followed by 87 in the second Test in Birmingham. So far, he has scored 233 runs in three matches at an average of 38.83, including one century and one half-century.
Vengsarkar also dismissed claims that Shubman Gill’s argument with Zak Crawley affected his batting.

I don’t think the incident with Crawley affected Gill’s batting. Gill felt strongly about the incident and made his feelings clear. I don’t think it had any impact on his batting. He’s a great player and his temperament and skill has been clear throughout the series. He played well at Headingley and I don’t think the incident at Lord’s affected him, the former batsman said.
Gill is currently the top scorer with 607 runs in three matches. In the third Test at Lord’s, he couldn’t continue his form, scoring 22 runs in two innings. India lost the match by 22 runs. He will be looking to score big in the fourth match in Manchester and help India come back in the series with the series at stake.
