Before Sachin Tendulkar became the cricket icon we know today, his personal life was subject to public interest and media speculation. One such instance was Shilpa Shirodkar. Before his marriage to Anjali in 1995, there were whispers about a relationship between Sachin and Shilpa, a Bollywood actress.
Shilpa Shirodkar was known for her roles in Gopi Kishan, Aankhen and Hum. But at the peak of her career, she married Aparesh Ranjit, a banker in UK, in 2000 and left the film industry and moved abroad.
The rumour about Shilpa Shirodkar and Sachin Tendulkar started when they knew each other briefly in the 90s.
Shilpa addressed these claims in an old interview with Red FM, where she explained how she met Sachin. She said they met because their families knew each other but the public jumped to conclusions since she was an actress and Sachin was a rising cricket star.
Shilpa said: During the shooting of Hum, I met Sachin through my cousin who lived near Sachin’s residence. Sachin and my cousin used to play cricket in Bandra East, that’s how I was introduced to him.

She went on to clarify that their interaction was limited to one meeting but the rumour spread fast. Sachin was already in a relationship with Anjali but it was not public knowledge at that time. We were aware of it because we were friends. Because an actor is meeting a cricketer and he was Sachin Tendulkar, it was easy for people to say, aree and I met him once, she added.
Sachin Tendulkar married Anjali in 1995. They have two children, Sara and Arjun. Arjun is following his father’s footsteps in cricket.
Shilpa has gone back to acting. She was on Bigg Boss and will be seen in Jatadhara.
Both Sachin and Shilpa have denied the claims.
