After 17 years, RCB finally won the IPL last month. The joy was short lived when a stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium overshadowed their win. Now it’s got worse.
According to reports, the Karnataka Government will file cases against RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment Networks.
RCB’s win was celebrated all over the country but happiness was short lived. The day after the team returned to Bengaluru, a stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium killed 11 and injured over 50 people putting the franchise in a legal soup.
As per a report by John Michael D’Cunha, the cabinet led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to take action. The report blames RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment Networks for the stampede, names KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, former secretary A Shankar, RCB vice-president Rajesh Menon and senior DNA officials as responsible parties.
According to The Times of India, HK Patil, Karnataka’s law and parliamentary affairs minister said action against suspended government officials will depend on what the departmental inquiry finds.

DNA Entertainment Networks has questioned the report and filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, saying procedural lapses and bias, seeking the court to throw out the commission’s findings.
The court noticed the stampede deaths and the state report and has ordered an investigation. CID and Bengaluru Urban’s deputy commissioner are still investigating.
