Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate may lose their jobs after 2025 Asia Cup, says report
The Telegraph reports that the BCCI has decided to sack them after the 2025 Asia Cup, before India plays the West Indies in October. The report says that the BCCI will do so regardless of how India does in the remaining Tests.
The BCCI apparently thinks Morkel hasn’t helped any of the bowlers to improve. They are also wondering what Doeschate does, especially since he filled in as coach when Gambhir went home before the series.
Gautam Gambhir had requested Morkel from South Africa and ten Doeschate from the Netherlands to join his team when he was hired last year, along with Abhishek Nayar from Mumbai. Gambhir had worked with Morkel at Lucknow Super Giants and with Nayar and ten Doeschate at Kolkata Knight Riders. Nayar, also an assistant coach, was let go after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.
Before the Old Trafford Test, the coaching team had won four out of 13 Tests. The report says the BCCI is willing to give Gambhir more time to avoid making a big change in leadership while the team is changing. It also says Ajit Agarkar, chairman of selectors, and Shiv Sundar Das, East’s representative are also being watched closely by the BCCI.

The Curious case of Kuldeep Yadav
The report says decision-makers disagree on some team selections, especially Kuldeep Yadav not playing. Kuldeep is a match-winner but hasn’t played a single Test in the series, with the management choosing batting depth and all-rounders instead.
The coaches always talk about balance but leaving out a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav has been disastrous, says a source in the report.
