England captain Ben Stokes spoke to the media after play on the third day of the fourth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Stokes had a hamstring issue while batting today. He got treatment in the dressing room before returning to score 141 off 198 balls with 11 fours and three sixes.
I’m okay mentally but my body’s not as good as it was, Stokes said. It’s bothered me a bit. The workload’s been heavy so far in the series. Last week at Lord’s was big with time in the middle, overs bowled and the same again this week. I’ve said it before, pain is just an emotion. It is what it is.
He added, It’s actually my bicep tendon. I’ve done a lot throughout. It’s been creeping up. I’ve spent a lot of time in the middle doing my job as an all-rounder and it’s just got a bit fired up, but it didn’t get any worse throughout the day so I kept going. Hopefully it calms down and I’ll be ready for the last game.

When asked if he would play in the fifth Test, the all-rounder said, Everyone will be pretty sore and tired going into the last game looking at how long we’ve been in the field and the overs we’ve bowled as a unit. We’ll check everyone out and hopefully we can use the next two to three days to rest and then decide. These recovery days are going to be important and we might need to get some fresh players in. But we won’t decide until closer to the last game.
In the Manchester Test, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar hit centuries in the second innings to help India draw the fourth Test against England.
India batted for more than five sessions to save the game. At the end of the final session India were 425/4 with Jadeja 107* and Sundar 101*. They added 203 runs for the fifth wicket.
