A Great Honour for a Cricket Legend
When asked about his statue, Sunil Gavaskar said he was very touched that his cricket association decided to have a statue of him at the entrance of the new museum at Wankhede Stadium. He said he will always be thankful to Mumbai Cricket Association for their support as he started playing and to BCCI for letting him play for India. He added it’s an honour he will always remember.
This is a great way to honour a person who started India’s tradition of producing great batsmen. He was the first to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and ended his Test career with 34 Test centuries. Gavaskar’s bravery facing fast bowlers without a helmet is a part of Indian cricket folklore. The statue at MCA is a fitting tribute to the legend.
