What a turn of events! Mohammed Siraj has reached 15th in the rankings! He jumped after his Player of the Match performance in the 5th Test against England in the ICC World Test Championship. The match at The Oval ended 2-2.
He got there because of his 9/190 in the match. On the last day he took 3 of the 4 wickets, including the last of Gus Atkinson to win India by 6 runs – their narrowest win in terms of runs.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s number 1 fast bowler, played 3 Tests to manage his workload. He remains at the top with 889 points.
Siraj’s Player of the Match award came after India’s win at The Oval in London. He took 9 wickets in the match, 5 in the 2nd innings. India defended 374 and the series was tied. With Bumrah resting, Siraj led the bowling attack. Bumrah was released from the squad before the 5th Test.
The 30-year-old finished the 5-Test series with 23 wickets, the most by any bowler. He bowled 185.2 overs, the most in the series, showing his hard work and dedication to Shubman Gill’s team.
Now Siraj joins Jasprit Bumrah as one of two Indian bowlers in the ICC Test top 15. Bumrah is at the top despite a quiet series in England. He played 3 Tests, took 14 wickets, 2 five-fors.
Prasidh Krishna also reached a career best 59th. He and Siraj are the second Indian pair to take 4 or more wickets in both innings of a Test. The only other time this happened was when spinners Bishan Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna did it against Australia in Delhi in 1969.

In the Test batting rankings, Joe Root has increased his lead. He scored his 3rd century in as many matches. Harry Brook’s 111 off 98 balls has helped him move back to 2nd. Yashasvi Jaiswal is back at 5th after his 118 in the 2nd innings at The Oval.
