Ben Stokes, the England Test captain, will be a mentor for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this year. Stokes played five games for the Superchargers in 2021 and 2024 and will be with the men’s team for the whole competition this summer.
In February it was announced that Stokes wouldn’t be playing in The Hundred this summer. He needed to focus on his fitness for the Ashes in Australia this winter. Stokes also had a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the fifth Test against India so he wouldn’t have played anyway.
The Northern Superchargers haven’t made the playoffs in the Men’s Hundred yet. Their 2025 season starts on August 7 against the Welsh Fire. The game is at Headingley in Leeds.
Stokes recently said he would be a mentor for the Superchargers in The Hundred 2025. He had to decide in January if he would play in The Hundred 2025. He will keep working on his rehab while he’s with the Superchargers.
Stokes told ESPNcricinfo, You’ll see me around the Hundred, but not playing. I had to decide in January if I would play in the competition, after my hamstring surgery. I said I would still like to be involved, so I will be around. I won’t be taking notes. I offered to give my time to the team. I will be focusing on my rehab.”
Just days before, Stokes accepted the close six-run loss to India at The Oval with good sportsmanship. He said the 2-2 series was a fair result for such a competitive Test series. Even though he was disappointed not to have won the series, Stokes praised both teams for playing five great Test matches.

After almost seven weeks of hard cricket, the final match at The Oval was a fitting end to the series. England needed 35 runs with four wickets left to win. But India, led by a brilliant bowling performance from Mohammed Siraj, took the last four wickets for 28 runs. What a finish! Stokes said, It was a close series for five days. The previous games were close too. Both teams gave it their all. 2-2 is probably a fair result for the fans. Of course we wanted to win the series so there’s some disappointment but both teams deserve credit for the cricket.
Despite the loss Stokes was gracious and proud of the series the two teams had produced.
This was one of the best series I’ve ever been a part of. I hope people will remember it, not just for the cricket but for how good Test cricket is.
