With the Women’s ODI World Cup just two months away, there’s a worry whether Bengaluru will be able to host the matches. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) hasn’t got the official nod from the government to host the matches. Four big games are at stake including the opener and a semifinal.
Sources say BCCI and ICC are worried how this will mess up the schedule. The first match is scheduled on September 30 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium where India is supposed to play Sri Lanka.
The delay is because of the crowd management issue. On June 5, 11 people died in a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL celebration. There are still legal investigations going on. State government hasn’t approved any big cricket event in Bengaluru yet.
Despite all these issues, the officials are still hoping Bengaluru can host the matches. But if the delay continues, BCCI and ICC might have to look for other venues to avoid problems.
Cricbuzz reported on Thursday that there’s doubt over the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 matches in Bengaluru. KSCA still needs to get permission from the government to host the 50-over World Cup matches.
The report said, The doubt is because of the tragic stampede in June where 11 fans died while Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated their IPL win. The issue is in court and the state government hasn’t given permission for the matches. KSCA has shifted the Maharaja Cup T20 from the city to Mysuru and is waiting for approval on the Women’s World Cup.
A KSCA official told Cricbuzz, “We’ve written to the government and are waiting for a reply. They haven’t said no. If they would have said no, they wouldn’t have allowed Maharaja Cup in Mysuru. So we’re waiting.
