Virat Kohli seems to be hinting at a comeback to ODI cricket before the series against Australia. This comes at a time when there are talks and rumors about him and Rohit Sharma retiring from ODIs and hence not playing in the 2027 World Cup.
A while back, Kohli posted a photo on his Instagram story. The photo was from an indoor practice session with Naeem Amin who coaches the Gujarat Titans. Kohli wrote, Thanks for the hit, brother. Always nice to see you. This post suggested that Kohli is back to practicing after taking a break post the intense IPL season and he is still working hard and getting ready.

But a report in Dainik Jagran said Kohli’s international career might end with the Australia tour. The report said if both Kohli and Rohit want to play ODIs they need to play domestic cricket to stay relevant and have a chance to be picked for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
Soon after a fan shared the Instagram post with the message: Virat Kohli prepping for the Aussie ODIs. Kohli’s official Instagram account liked the post and people thought even more that he’s getting ready for international matches. Kohli will be back in action later this year in October for the three match series in Australia.
Not so long ago both Kohli and Rohit had said they want to play in the 2027 Cricket World Cup which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Kohli is known as the best ODI batter ever with a world record of 51 centuries. He has played 302 ODIs and scored 14,181 runs with an average of 57.88.

India’s next ODI series is in Australia where they will play three matches starting October 19. Later they will play South Africa at home in December.
Indian cricket has many stories and the main question is whether Kohli and Rohit who have together made 83 ODI centuries and over 25,000 runs can last till October 2027 ODI World Cup when they will be 39 and 40 years old respectively. They would have told BCCI officials if they were thinking of something like they did before the England Test series. But for the Indian team the next big thing is the T20 World Cup in February and getting ready for that.
