After the intense Asia Cup Super Four match against India, Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha spoke about the controversial dismissal of their opener Fakhar Zaman. Salman said Sanju Samson’s catch might have been a ground ball.
Fakhar was sent up the order to start the innings and he got Pakistan off to a flying start with three boundaries in his first eight balls and was looking good for a big score at 15. But then Hardik Pandya bowled a slower one and Fakhar edged it and Samson reached out to grab the catch.
The umpires on the field sent the call to the TV umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge who after watching several replays decided the ball went straight into the gloves. Fakhar was given out which didn’t sit well with the Pakistan team.

At the post-match press conference Salman Agha said the call might not have been right. I’m not sure about the decision. It looked to me like it bounced. It’s the umpire’s job and they can make mistakes which is fine but it did seem like it bounced first. I could be wrong though, Salman said.
The Pakistan captain also talked about how important Fakhar’s wicket was. The way he was batting if he had stayed in through the powerplay we would have probably scored 190. It’s hard to say for sure, he added.
Salman said he respected the umpires’ decision but still had doubts. It’s their call and they are allowed to make mistakes. I just thought it bounced before the keeper caught it but I could be wrong, he concluded.
About the game on Sunday night Pakistan managed 171/5 which is their highest against India when batting first in T20Is. In response Abhishek (74) and Shubman Gill (47) added 105 runs for the opening wicket to set up India’s win.
