Shoaib Akhtar, the old Pakistan fast bowler, didn’t hold back when talking about Pakistan’s struggles in the Asia Cup. He went after head coach Mike Hesson big time. This came after Pakistan’s six-wicket loss to India in their Super Four match in Dubai on Sunday.
Pakistan batted first and scored 171/5 in 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan scored 58 off 45. India chased it down with 7 balls to spare, thanks to a 105-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma (74) and Shubman Gill (47).
After the match, Akhtar didn’t mince words about Hesson’s strategy and even asked why captain Salman Ali Agha was in the lineup.

Akhtar said on Tapmad, Someone needs to ask the coach what he’s thinking. The coaching and team selection doesn’t make sense. I feel like I’m the one who’s clueless, even after playing 15 years of cricket. For the past 5-6 matches we’ve been suggesting a certain team, but no one’s listening. What was Hussain Talat supposed to do in such a high-pressure game? What’s Mohammad Nawaz bringing to the table? And what about the captain?
During the match, Gill and Abhishek had a great partnership, adding 105 runs for the first wicket. Abhishek scored 74 off 39, while Gill scored 47 off 28.
Abhishek also commented on Pakistan’s aggressive behavior on the field, saying India decided to respond with the bat.
Abhishek said after the game, Today was pretty straightforward. I didn’t like how the Pakistani bowlers were coming at us for no reason. That’s why I decided to go after them. I wanted to perform for the team. He was Man of the Match.
