In an interesting development, the fast bowler Arundhati Reddy was declared ‘perfectly fine’ after an injury scare in a warm-up match against England. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Thursday. This update will fill the entire Indian camp with positivity just before the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
What’s the Update regarding the injury
While bowling her fifth over, having dismissed opener Amy Jones, Reddy suffered the injury. Reddy was injured when Heather Knight, the England captain, hit a fierce straight drive right against her left knee. The impact came violently, and Arundhati could not get back on her feet immediately. Team physios and reserve players were quick to rush to her aid, and she had to be wheeled off the field.
However, in a huge boost to World Cup preparations, a BCCI source confirmed to Times of India (TOI) that scans revealed no major injury.
Why Is Reddy’s Fitness crucial for team India?
Valid to note that Arundhati Reddy is yet in her early career, having played only 11 ODIs and taking 15 wickets at an average of 32.66 and a strike rate of 5.36. Conversely, though, the ace pacer has played 38 T20Is and taken 34 wickets.
Her pace and bounce-interface-building ability make her a match-winning candidate for the team. Considering an ODI World Cup on the horizon, her inclusion in the squad would surely provide India with a much-needed tonne in their pace attack.
It is also to be noted that Arundhati-Reddy, now freed from injury concerns, is expected to play the first World Cup match for India against Sri Lanka on September 30.
