Star player Shreyas Iyer is reported to be healing nicely after a spleen laceration and a rib injury occurred during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. Initially, after the severe injury, Iyer was admitted to the ICU at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital. Now, he has been transferred to a private room and could be reportedly released soon.
Shreyas Iyer Recovery on the fast track
The Times of India has given an exclusive report that the injury might have been fatal if it was not treated in time. Recently, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia communicated with TOI regarding Iyer’s injury and his present condition.
“Shreyas is much, much, much better. His recovery has been much faster than what the doctor expected. I’m in regular touch with Dr Rizwan (Khan, Indian team doctor who stayed back with Iyer to assist with his treatment at the Sydney hospital). Normally, he should take six to eight weeks (to recover completely), but you can expect a surprise from him because he may recover much earlier,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said
“The doctors are very satisfied with his progress. He has started his normal functioning (routine chores). His injury was very severe, but he has recovered and is out of danger, which is why he was shifted from the ICU to his room in the hospital yesterday,” he added.
BCCI provides family support
According to the latest report from TOI, the BCCI is arranging the trip for Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shresta to Sydney to support him during his healing process. It was also reported that the player was very positive about the situation saying, “He’s talking, smiling, and even cracking jokes with the nurses.” In addition, he has begun eating normal food, moving about, and receiving calls.
The recovery of the 30-year-old is, however, still under the supervision of the specialists who are recommending to him to take things easy. It will possibly be a case of six to eight weeks before he gets back to his original fitness, though an early discharge could occur within days.
