Test cricket is done remarkably well to stay on the throne, while T20 cricket at the same time is continuously rising to new heights. The shortest format has the right of the prime time evening slot.
And this situation is, of course, very hard for the longest format and is even reflected in a reduced number of spectators at day games. So, in order to get a substantial audience for Test matches, the organisers have been scheduling day/night Tests at a prime time slot since 2015.
So far, we have seen a couple of day/night Tests played with a pink ball every year, particularly in Australia. There is no big gap between day Tests and day/night Tests, but the session breaks do differ a little.
This article, therefore, is going to present the session and break timings in pink-ball Test matches.

What are the session timings in day/night Test matches?
Just like the common games, the day/night tests also have three sessions. The session timings are also identical, as they are all two hours long.
Contrary to the day games, the pink-ball match commences in the afternoon approximately at 2:30 PM. The first session then continues until 4:30 PM when players go for a tea break.
After the players have had their break, they come back on the field for the second session at 4:50 PM and this session lasts until 6:50 PM. Then, there is a dinner break instead of a lunch break that is longer than the tea break.
The last session is then played by the teams, starting at 7:30 PM and continuing until 9:30 PM. The session might also be extended for 30 minutes in case the minimum overs of the day are not bowled.
It is worth mentioning that the session timings will primarily depend on the weather condition.
How long does a tea break last in day/night Test matches?
In a day game, the tea break is a 20-minute interval after the second session. But in a day/night game, as it takes place after the first session, the break time varies in different parts of the world.
The duration of tea break varies from 20 minutes to 40 minutes in different places. For example, there’s a 20-minute tea break in India, but in Australia, it lasts for 40 minutes.
How long is a dinner break in day/night Test matches?
Day-night games start in the afternoon, hence lunch break has been swapped with a dinner break. The duration of the dinner break is determined by how long the tea break lasts.
If the tea break is for 20 minutes, then the dinner break will be for 40 minutes and vice versa. Therefore, a dinner break will be for either 20 or 40 minutes.
