The Big Bash league is one of the most prestigious leagues played in Australia which has superstars featuring from nearly all around the World. Big bash has been a witness of many thrilling matches from last ball finishes to wickets rattling in the arena.
But for cricket fans one of the most loving sites is ball going for a sixes. Big bash has a history of producing some of the most powerful hitters of the cricket ball who believed that the ball should travel more in air than on the ground.
In this article we will witness players who have hit most sixes in the history of the Big Bash league
1. Chris Lynn (220 sixes)
Chris Lynn is the prominent sixes’ man of BBL. The opening batsman has scored 220 sixes so far and still holds the top position with a huge margin. Lynn is also the one who has scored the most runs not only in BBL but in all cricket he has played. No one in BBL history can currently be compared to Lynn when it comes to sixes hitting. The other batters in the tournament might be hitting few sixes at times but not the Brisbane-born one who has been consistently hitting tremendous sixes season after season. He has done it for five times already when he hit over 20 sixes in one season.

Lynn’s 2015/16 BBL season was the booming season of all time for six-hitting. The opening batsman blasted 27 sixes throughout that season. There are two years when Lynn hit 26 sixes during that season too. His uncanny pull shot on short balls from the fastest of bowlers has a lot to do with the collection of sixes. While Maxwell and McDermott vie for the second place, it seems highly improbable there would any batter challenging Lynn for the absolute six-hitter title in BBL.
2. Glenn Maxwell (149 sixes)
Glenn Maxwell also known as Big Show has got the second place in the list of sixes hitters of the Big Bash League. He has hit 149 sixes during the 13 years of the league. Maxwell has been an extravagant hitter and even world’s mightiest boundaries cannot stop him from clearing them. His six-hitting ability also gave the Australian all-rounder the highest strike rate in the BBL for players with at least 1,200 runs.
The power-hitter has set several records in white-ball cricket and one of them is the joint-most hundreds in T20Is. In the Big Bash League, Maxwell has been a consistent six-hitter. His best season in terms of six-hitting came in 2024/25 when the former Melbourne Stars’ skipper scored 27 sixes.
3. Ben McDermott (131 sixes)
Ben McDermott is at the third position concerning the maximum number of sixes in the BBL. The wicketkeeper batter has 131 sixes to his name. At 29, he has been with Hobart Hurricanes for nine seasons, where most of his success has been, pretty much enjoyed. McDermott is a big shot player and that is why he has the most centuries in the BBL.
He was on the radar with his first century in the tournament. His knock of 114 was made up of nine sixes and helped his team to chase down the 223 runs target against Melbourne Renegades. His best for six-hitting was in BBL 2020/21 and 2021/22. In these two seasons, McDermott was able to hit 50 sixes.
4. Aaron Finch (118 sixes)
The retired Australian captain, Aaron Finch, possesses the fourth most number of sixes in the Big Bash League. Playing for the Melbourne Renegades he has hit 118 sixes. Finch was one of those batsmen who would sometimes play havoc with the bowlers and clean up the singles at the same time making him an ideal opener in white-ball cricket. Finch, was one of the most in-demand T20 players and played for almost nine IPL teams over his career.
In the Big Bash League, Finch was more consistent than ever. The former Australian batter hit more than 10 sixes throughout six seasons. His six-hitting best came in the 2021/22 when he struck 18 sixes. He quit the marquee T20 league following a disappointing 2023/24 season. In five games, the opener could only score 66 and failed to hit a six.
5. Alex Hales (107 sixes)
Among the players in BBL, Alex Hales ranks 5th regarding the number of sixes. The batter from England has smashed 107 sixes in the tournament. Besides, he has reached the top among the overseas players for the maximum number of sixes hit in the BBL. Hales’ issues when he failed to show up for drug tests leading up to the 2019 World Cup were the only thing that held back his magnificent international career.
Despite his absence from the England cricket team, Hales became a T20 specialist and travelled around the World. The opener during this time especially the Big Bash in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. In those two seasons combined, Hales fired off 53 sixes and was then recalled to the national team a year later.
