Jasprit Bumrah played the three Tests as planned. Will he miss the fifth and final Test at The Oval starting July 31 where India hopes to draw the series? India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has allayed fears about his fast bowlers’ fitness saying there are no injuries. But he didn’t confirm if Bumrah will play in the fifth Test. On Sunday, India batted well to ensure the fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw after being behind for most part of the game. Shubman Gill and all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored centuries as India reached 425/4 before…

Rishabh Pant will miss the fifth India-England Test at The Oval next week. He got injured on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. BCCI announced on Sunday (July 27) that Pant won’t be available for the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after the match in Manchester. Narayan Jagadeesan will replace him. Jagadeesan, 29, the wicketkeeper-batter from Tamil Nadu, is joining the India Test team for the first time. He will reach England soon to join the squad before the fifth Test. Ishan Kishan was BCCI’s first choice but he is currently dealing with an ankle injury.…
England captain Ben Stokes spoke to the media after play on the third day of the fourth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester. Stokes had a hamstring issue while batting today. He got treatment in the dressing room before returning to score 141 off 198 balls with 11 fours and three sixes. I’m okay mentally but my body’s not as good as it was, Stokes said. It’s bothered me a bit. The workload’s been heavy so far in the series. Last week at Lord’s was big with time in the middle, overs bowled and the same…
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering to include foreign players in the National Cricket League (NCL), Bangladesh’s premier first-class domestic tournament. Last year NCL had only local players to help them prepare for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The matches were held in two venues in Sylhet. Cricbuzz reports that the BCB allowed foreign players in NCL in the past and it helped to grow the local cricketers, especially in the longer format of the game. According to a BCB official involved in the league’s planning, they will seek board approval to allow NCL teams to include foreign players…
In the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, July 27, Ben Stokes had a great day with both bat and ball. The 34-year-old took 5 for 72 in the first innings and 141 from 198 balls. In the second innings he bowled 11 overs and got KL Rahul (90). Stokes’ all-round performance at Old Trafford earned him the Player of the Match award, his 12th in Test cricket. Joe Root is the only Englishman with more at 13 in 157 Tests. Most Player of the Match awards in Tests for England: PlayerMan of the Match…
Ben Stokes is still getting flak for asking the Indian batsmen to agree to a draw which Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar refused. On Sunday with an hour left in the 4th Test between India and England in Manchester, Stokes asked Jadeja to finish the game as a win seemed impossible. Jadeja and Sundar were close to their centuries when Stokes asked them to shake hands, hoping they’d agree to a draw. They declined and Stokes was upset and used part timers. Jadeja and Sundar went on to get their centuries and the game ended in a draw. Mohammad Kaif,…
Gautam Gambhir, a two-time World Cup winner, doesn’t like to talk about individual performances in team sports, not even his own. He has often been vocal about not giving credit to individuals for a team’s win. But he is making an exception for Rishabh Pant’s brave effort which he thinks will inspire future generations. Pant hurt his foot on the first day of the 4th Test against England but came back to bat on the second day and scored a half-century. Pant looked in a lot of pain after he was hit on his right foot. It swelled up when…
Sachin Tendulkar praised the Indian team for the day’s play at Old Trafford. They batted through the day and saved the Test and kept the series alive for the final match. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja batted for over two sessions. They saved India from losing to England and got a draw. After giving up a 311 run lead and losing their openers for no score in the second innings, India showed character. Shubman Gill (103 off 238), KL Rahul (90 off 230), Jadeja (107 not out off 185), and Washington (101 not out off 206) got India a good…
Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian cricketer, said Rohit Sharma’s average was 10 in his last two Test series. Virat Kohli, though a top batsman, averaged 30 in the last five years. He said replacing them wasn’t easy. But their departure hasn’t hurt India much. Without Rohit and Kohli, Test captain Shubman Gill led India’s batting twice, first in the Birmingham win against England and then in the Manchester draw that kept the series alive. Jonathan Trott, the former England batsman, said England wouldn’t have managed as well if the situation was reversed. Trott said on Sony Sports that removing someone…
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian coach, says his players don’t need to look for inspiration elsewhere; he wants them to create their own legacy. When asked if the fight shown by Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja reminded him of his own century in 2009 where he scored 137 to help India draw against New Zealand, Gambhir said he doesn’t recall any of his past innings. I don’t remember any of my innings; that’s all in the past. These players are writing their own stories. No one in this team is trying to copy anyone else. They are writing their…
