1. West Indies – 344/1 vs England, 1984
West Indies holds the record for the highest successful chase at Lord’s. In the first innings, Graeme Fowler scored a century for England and they were 286. West Indies were bowled out for 245 due to Ian Botham’s 8 wickets.
In the second innings, England declared at 300/9 and set a massive target of 342 for the visitors. Gordon Greenidge (214*) then scored an unbeaten double century and Larry Gomes (92*) an unbeaten 92 to help West Indies win by 9 wickets.
2. England – 282/3 vs New Zealand, 2004
In 2004, England played New Zealand in the first match of a 3 game series at Lord’s. New Zealand scored 386 in the first innings. England replied with 441 thanks to a century from Andrew Strauss.
In the second innings, New Zealand scored 336 with a century from Mark Richardson and 96 from Brendon McCullum. But Nasser Hussain (103*) scored an unbeaten century to guide England to a 7 wicket win in the 282 run chase.
3. South Africa – 282/5 vs Australia, 2025
South Africa made history by chasing 282 against Australia in the WTC 2023-2025 final at Lord’s. Australia were asked to bat first and were bowled out for 212 in the first innings thanks to Kagiso Rabada’s 5 wickets.
South Africa struggled against Australia’s pace attack and were bowled out for 138. In the second innings Australia scored 207 and set a 282 run target for South Africa.
Aiden Markram (136) scored the century that set up South Africa’s win. South Africa won by 5 wickets to win their first WTC title.
4. England – 279/5 vs New Zealand, 2022
England played the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s in 2022. James Anderson and Matthew Potts took four wickets each to bowl New Zealand out for 132 in the first innings.
England then collapsed and were bowled out for 141. In the second innings Daryl Mitchell scored 108 to help the Kiwis to 285. Chasing 277 Joe Root (115*) hit an unbeaten century to win the game by 5 wickets.

5. England – 218/3 vs New Zealand, 1965
In a Test match against New Zealand in 1965 England chased 216 at Lord’s. The Kiwis were bowled out for 175 in the first innings. Colin Cowdrey scored a century to take England to 307.
In the second innings New Zealand fought back and scored 347 and set England 216 to win. Geoff Boycott (76) and Ted Dexter (80*) then hit fifties to win the game by 7 wickets.
