Since 1932, India has a test history in England. The batting conditions are vastly different between the two countries. Yet, some amazing batting has happened in this rivalry. 1. Shubman Gill – 607 runs, 2025
Shubman Gill’s start as test captain was great. Gill’s test debut was in India’s 2025 test tour of England. In the first test he scored a hundred at Headingley, Leeds. In the second test he scored his first double hundred and another hundred in the second innings. He has scored 607 runs in six innings on tour, the most by an Indian batsman in a test series in England.
2. Rahul Dravid – 602 runs, 2002
Rahul Dravid loves batting in England. He first played in England and has good memories there. In 2002 he had one of his best tours, breaking records. India drew the series 1-1. Rahul scored 602 runs in four games, averaging 100.33. He had three hundreds and one fifty, his highest being 217.
3. Virat Kohli – 593 runs, 2018
After a poor tour of England in 2014, Virat Kohli came back as India’s run machine in 2018. He was on fire and proved his critics wrong who doubted his ability to score in English conditions. Virat scored 593 runs at 59.30 in the five match series, two hundreds and three fifties. India won only one game in the series where he scored 97 and 103.

4. Sunil Gavaskar – 525 runs, 1979
Sunil Gavaskar, the Little Master, has scored everywhere. He was the first Indian batsman to score 500 or more runs in an English test series, in the 1979 tour which had four tests. In seven innings he scored one hundred and four fifties. This included his 210 at the Oval which almost led India to a world record chase. He ended with 525 runs at 77.42 and led the series in scoring.
5. Rahul Dravid – 461 runs, 2011
Rahul Dravid was the second Indian batsman to score three hundreds in an English test series. He did it in the 2011 tour, a four match series. Dravid had 461 runs at 76.83, his highest being 146 not out. He scored fifty three times, each time turning it into a hundred.
