After abandoning Faf du Plessis as their captain for the last three Indian Premier League seasons, RCB will appoint a captain for IPL 2025. It is believed by most fans and experts that Virat Kohli, who stepped down as captain of RCB in 2021, would take back the reins in the 2025 season. The team from Bengaluru, waiting for its IPL crown, is yet to make an official announcement.
Recently, the COO of RCB, Rajesh Menon, was asked by Sports Tak whether Kohli would be captain of the franchise in the IPL 2025 edition, to which he replied, “We have not decided anything as of now. There are four to five leaders in the team. We have done no discussion yet about what we need to do. Discussion, yes, and we will come to that conclusion.”
As captain of RCB, he has played 143 IPL matches, winning 66 and losing 70 and went to the IPL final with his team RCB in 2016-season 973 runs with the bat.
There are some unique signings that RCB made at the IPL 2025 mega auction, including Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Tim David, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jitesh Sharma, Devdutt Padikkal, Josh Hazlewood, Romario Shepherd, Nuwan Thushara, and Suyash Sharma, among many others.
When asked about the assembled squad of RCB for IPL 2025, Menon mentioned, “We were totally clear on the gaps open before us, what we need to fill, of the Indian core we require to build what the bowling attack would resemble if one is to play in M Chinnaswamy Stadium, and that is what we did.”
“The first day was calm for us, and given that others thought we were non-participants at an auction, it was at the end of the second day that everyone-bravos to experts-said whatever we did was the best in covering all gap areas; I’d say we have one of the best teams.”
