The Afghanistan Cricket Board governs the annual cricketing event known as The Shpageeza Cricket League. The seventh edition of this T20 tournament concludes today in Kabul. After 20 league stage matches in Afghanistan-based T20 league, one-time title winner Mis Ainak Knights and defending champions Amo Sharks made it to the electrifying final.
Whichever team lifts the coveted trophy will add to the legacy of this T20 domestic competition, which first began in 2013 as the Shpageeza Cricket Tournament. Today, the vision remains the same, which is to bring cricketing talents in the spotlight as players from the U-19 team and the domestic circuit also participate, apart from national team players. Over the years, certain changes took place in the format, teams and squads.
The three-time champion Speenghar Tigers won the first season in 2013. In the current edition, a total of five regional teams contested at Kabul International Cricket Stadium in Kabul. Notably, Speenghar is the only team with a 100% win rate after entering a final. Mis Ainak Knights once again got the ticket to the final, being a regular team in the tournament with four consecutive appearances in finals from 2016 to 2020. They won the tournament in 2019, while finishing as runner-up on three occasions.
