Cricket fans in India are getting ready for the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicking off on March 22, and some crazy stuff just happened in international cricket.
Andrew Brownlee, who plays for the Falkland Islands International Cricket Team, just became the oldest guy to play his first international game. He was 62 years and 147 days old! He did it in a game against Costa Rica on March 10. It is wild, especially when most cricketers retire way before that age.
Sure, some awesome players like MS Dhoni keep playing past 40, like he’s doing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings. But Brownlee starting at 62? That’s something else.
Brownlee played in a three-game series for the Falkland Islands against Costa Rica on March 10, 11, and 12. Even though he has been around the block, he only scored 6 runs and didn’t get any wickets in his two times bowling.
These games were also the first time the Falkland Islands played international cricket, making them the 106th team to do it. What’s wild is they have a bunch of older guys on the team, with three over 56 and almost everyone in the starting lineup over 40.
