Aakash Chopra thinks Cameron Green might be the costliest player at the next IPL mini-auction.
Green, who hails from Perth, has played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru before. Unfortunately, a lower-spine fracture during the England tour kept him out of the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Chopra said Green is hitting the ball beautifully since he recovered. And he’ll start bowling soon. Chopra, who used to open the batting for India, thinks teams will go all out to get Green for the 2026 IPL.
In a recent T20 against South Africa in Darwin, Green smashed 35 off 13 balls to help Australia win by 17 runs.
He almost broke the record for the fastest half-century by an Australian batsman. At one point he had 31 off 9 balls. Unfortunately, he couldn’t connect on two of the next three balls and then got fooled by a slower ball.
When he got back to the dressing room his score was 35 off 13. The fastest half-century by an Australian is 16 balls. Tim David, who now plays for RCB, achieved that feat earlier this year against the West Indies, beating Marcus Stoinis’ record of 17 balls.
Chopra said, “Cameron Green, I think he’ll be the most expensive player in the auction. Since he got back from his injury, he’s been batting amazingly. He’s not bowling yet, but he will be at some point.
He added, “Right now, he’s batting higher up the order because he’s not bowling. If he starts bowling, teams will pay a lot for him because of his batting. That’s what I think. So, this auction might be all about Cameron Green.”
Green, who missed IPL 2025 due to injury, scored 255 runs at a strike rate of 143.25 in 12 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024.

Chopra praised Mumbai Indians for spotting talent before other IPL teams do, mentioning names like Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David and Cameron Green. He told the team led by Hardik Pandya to be a bit more patient with their international players. He said, Mumbai Indians always find these players early. I’ll mention four players they had but let go. Maybe they could have managed their overseas players better. They had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David and Cameron Green all in one year. All were in the same team and now none of them are with the team.
Chopra said, Mumbai Indians are great at spotting talent but they probably want to make one change. They are patient with Indian players so maybe they need to give their international players, especially the new ones, a bit more time. They let them go when they’re not polished but with time they can become real stars.
