Before Punjab Kings clash with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, ex-cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has a few lineup thoughts. Chopra believes that with their newfound availability, Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis should be drafted into the PBKS squad.
PBKS qualified for the playoffs after a strong campaign under Shreyas Iyer, the last-to-win captain of the franchise. Their target of an automatic qualification spot is really difficult, though. This game against Delhi is on 24 May, and Chopra finds it a no-brainer to give a run to Inglis and Stoinis: “He also suggests Marco Jansen and Omarzai as the other overseas players.
“Now both Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis are available- some welcome news indeed. It is time to see the back of someone like Mitch Owen, after zero runs. Just bring them straight into the team. With Marco and Azmatullah, that makes four overseas players,” said Chopra.Â
He also added that these experienced Aussie players would perfectly support the young openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. “Last match, even though they weren’t doing well at first and were 34/3, they still managed to score over 200 runs. Arya and Singh really need to step up this time. Those two were hitting well right before the IPL was paused,” he stated.
Iyer played through an injury against the Rajasthan Royals, scoring 30 runs even after hurting his finger. He wasn’t able to field but seems to be alright. He’s had a six-day break before facing the Capitals, so he should be good to go.
