AB de Villiers is one of the all-time greats. The 41-year-old who kept wicket and captained the SA men’s team played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is over 14 years. He scored over 20,000 runs (20,014).
When asked recently who comes to mind when he thinks of the greatest of all time, de Villiers said Jacques Kallis. Kallis played 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is from 1995 to 2014 and scored 25,534 runs, took 577 wickets and caught 338 balls. He has the most runs for SA in Tests and ODIs and is one of seven players with over 10,000 runs in both formats.
Sachin Tendulkar has the record for most runs in Tests, ODIs and international cricket overall. He scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests, 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs and 10 runs in one T20I for India. He also took 46 wickets in Tests, 154 in ODIs and one in T20I.

Virat Kohli retired from T20Is last year (June 29, 2024) and Tests on May 12, 2025 and has 27,599 runs in 550 games.
De Villiers is now playing for SA Champions in the World Championship of Legends in England. On July 24 in Leicester he scored a century in 41 balls against the England Champions and helped SA chase down 153 in 12.2 overs for a 10-wicket win.
In his next game against Australia Champions on July 27 in Leeds he scored a century in 39 balls. He scored 123 runs off 46 balls with 15 fours and 8 sixes. His innings helped SA Champions win by 95 runs and stay at the top of the table.
