The Afghanistan cricket team, which has always seen India as a kind of home ground, is now teaming up with a new location. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has just signed a five-year deal with the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub (ADCSH). Because of the current political issues in Afghanistan, the ACB can’t hold international matches in their own country anymore. So, they’ve had to find a new spot and will now be playing their home series in Abu Dhabi.
In the past, Afghanistan played their home matches in India, in places like Dehradun, Lucknow, and Greater Noida. There was even a Test match scheduled with New Zealand in 2024 that ended up getting cancelled due to rain, which was a bit of a letdown for everyone involved.

According to Cricbuzz, this new agreement means that Abu Dhabi will officially be Afghanistan’s new home base. This change includes all training camps and matches for the national team as well as for their age group teams. They’re also planning to hold domestic matches and series in Abu Dhabi, which is a pretty big deal.
Naseeb Khan, the Chief Executive of ACB, shared his thoughts on this agreement and seemed pretty pleased. He mentioned, “We’re happy with our deal with ADCSH. It will give us the facilities we need to thrive in cricket. Declaring Abu Dhabi as our second home feels like a big step forward for us.
Over on the ADCSH side, Matt Boucher, their Chief Executive, also expressed excitement about the partnership. He said, “Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub is proud to be the second home for Afghanistan cricket. We have had the chance to host some amazing players from around the world and we’re really glad to continue this relationship with Afghanistan.”
So, while Afghanistan cricket may be facing challenges at home, this new alliance with Abu Dhabi could open some doors and create new opportunities for the team. It’s an interesting turn of events that many fans will be watching closely.
