Cricket is slowly coming back to a country that was once quiet. Naseeb Khan, the CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) seems to have a plan to host international matches at home soon.
For years, Afghanistan has been playing its home games in the UAE or India, using borrowed grounds while waiting to play in their own country after the war.

ACB CEO Naseeb Khan recently said Afghanistan will be ready to host international cricket in three to four years. He based this on better security and more help from the global cricket community. Khan mentioned that the ACB recently held the Wakhan T20 Cup in Kunduz, near the Tajikistan border, and another three-day tournament in Helmand.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, the ACB CEO said: Before 2021, we couldn’t even hold local games in many areas because of conflict. Now, there is peace across the country. We recently had the Wakhan T20 Cup in Kunduz, near Tajikistan, and a three-day game in Helmand, near Iran. These events show how far we have come. If security improves and the international cricket community supports us, I think Afghanistan will host international cricket in the next three to four years.”
As Afghanistan’s future plans unfold, their focus is on the present, with a big international game coming up.
The Afghanistan team will travel to the UAE for the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. In Group B, Afghanistan will play Hong Kong on September 9, then Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on September 16 and 18.
