The famous Australian wicket-keeper Gilchrist feels that Rishabh Pant is having a pretty rough time in IPL 2025 right now. Pant was bought for a staggering Rs 27 crore, making this purchase the most expensive ever in the tournament. In the meantime, his price tag has sadly not been matched in return. Ten innings this season saw him amassing a paltry 128 runs at a mean average of 12.80, with just one half-century to his name.
Gilchrist shared some observations for Pant’s performance with the wicketkeeping legend moaning about how the player was not quite his mischievous self this season. “You usually see him enjoying his cricket, but we haven’t seen that this time. He’s not smiling, laughing, or looking relaxed. Maybe it’s the pressure of captaincy and the weight of that big price tag,” he told Cricbuzz.

Gilchrist lamented that Pant’s usual energy was nowhere to be found, as it is so entertaining to watch him when he’s in full swing. “There’s a balance to his game that we’re not seeing right now. I’ve noticed it over these 10-11 games. When he’s playing the way he should, his body language is vibrant. Something just isn’t right,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pant’s team, LSG, has just suffered its third loss in a row via a 37-run defeat to Punjab Kings. They have dropped to the seventh spot with five wins out of 11 matches and stand at 10 points. They really need to clinch victories in the remaining three matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad if they want to stay in the race.
